With the University’s recent review on the Teaching Track, CUEGU has formed a task force to exchange views with and collect comments from colleagues concerning the review. We have submitted our written comments about the review when we met the Provost in December 2021. You are invited to complete this short survey for us to gather a brief landscape of the work covered by Lecturers in CUHK, including but not limited to duties such as the amount of teaching load, administration (teaching, departmental/faculty/university level), student mentoring, pedagogical studies/projects, as well as your comments about the review. Your feedback is very important for us to explore the way forward about the recent review. We also plan to submit another feedback to the Provost after his Townhall Meeting on 7 Jan 2022.
CUEGU is deeply shocked by the CUHK management’s sudden removal of the statue of the Goddess of Democracy this morning.
The statue of the Goddess of Democracy was brought into the University Station Plaza by thousands of staff, students and citizens in 2010, and stood there for 11 years without the interference from the University’s management. It represented the spirit of the freedom of speech, collective governance by staff and students, and mutual respect in the campus.
Today, the University removed the statue suddenly during a school holiday when people are few – no prior effort was made to seek a consensus among staff and students, and without announcing the statue’s whereabouts. This showed deep disrespect for the staff and students. The Union is deeply dissatisfied by this action.
